"The show must go on… with Jazz Hands leading the way."
What Katie did...
My love for the performing arts began when I was just 3 years old dancing, singing, and acting. After years of dedication, exams, and stage lights I trained at Laine Theatre Arts for 12 years & Blackpool College earning both my National and Higher National Diplomas in Performing Arts with Distinctions.
I qualified as a college lecturer, gaining my PGCE in 1999: a decision I’ve never regretted. When surgery on both legs put an end to my professional performing career, I took my passion into the studio and classroom. I began lecturing in Performing Arts, first in Blackpool, where I had once graduated myself, and later at South Thames College in London. Both roles brought incredible experiences and the joy of working with inspiring students and fellow performers. I realised just how crucial the arts is within education and the impact it has on young adults for their focus, direction and confidence.
By 2008, I launched Pipsqueak Performing Arts offering music classes, after-school clubs, nursery sessions, and fabulous children’s parties. Not long after, I officially became the owner, put my own creative stamp on the brand, and built something that quickly became much-loved in our community.
When Rory, my son was born in 2009, the ability to run a business and be present for my young family felt absolutely priceless. Of course, there were challenges but watching Molly and Rory grow up within the business, attending classes and developing their own confidence and social skills, has been a beautiful part of their journey. In 2024, Molly successfully graduated from the BRIT School, London in Applied Theatre: the only Level 3 course in the UK designed specifically to build skills in community arts delivery – it’s very special to teach alongside the next generation of talent.
Now, as we proudly rebrand to Jazz Hands Performing Arts, the family spirit continues stronger than ever. Molly and Rory having grown up surrounded by songs, scripts, and sparkles are now part of the team themselves: teaching, entertaining, and lending their talents both on stage and behind the scenes.
This really is, as our tagline says, “The Business That Grows With Your Family.”
Sharing my passion with others and with my own children is a dream come true. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love every day, and to help others shine while they do it too. If you’re ready to start your own adventure, regardless of where you are in your career or family life, the Jazz Hands Business in a Box waiting list is now open just head to the ‘Business in a Box’ page to find out more!
